Bruce Tantrum has been involved in the Marine industry and yachting life in Auckland and New Zealand for most of his life.

As well as participating in active yacht racing for many years, Bruce also rose through the ranks to Commodore of the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, one of New Zealand's major yacht clubs, particularly when it comes to Offshore and Ocean racing.

Bruce through his greatest love, has more recently been a major instigator and trustee of the Auckland Traditional Boat Building School, involved in training of traditional boat building methods and the restoration of Classic New Zealand boats.

Bruce's love is the construction of model boats. Many of his creations have been built from the original design drawings, and although they are scale models, they are built using the same planking method.

As part of this love, Bruce has taken on the construction, under Licence, of the ELECTRON radio controlled yacht, designed and built by Des Townson up until his death in October 2008. See separate articles.
